The tip of the elevator is extremely fine and sharp. These instruments are specifically designed for precision; however, the tips are not designed for strong elevating forces and can be damaged if misused.


1. Place the tip axially in the periodonta.
2. Proceed with a slight twisting action to gently drive the tip into the socket. The thin tip cuts ligaments while compressing the bone.
3. Continue to two-thirds of the depth of the root, keeping close to the root wall. Avoid snagging the root.
4. If the root remains firm, repeat on the other side until the tooth is luxated from the socket.
