The Respiratory exerciser is used to carry out independent and controlled respiratory exercises for bedridden patients. Superficial and therefore inadequate respiration results in insufficient ventilation of the deeper-lying areas of the lungs. Secretions (in particular mucous) can accumulate in the lower regions of the lungs, making the lung tissue susceptible to infection.
This product is suitable for patients who have a decline in lung function due to chest lung disease, surgery, anesthesia, and mechanical ventilation, to assist in the recovery training of the lung respiratory function.
Calculate your inspiratory volume: multiply your inspiratory time (in seconds) by the inspiratory flow setting (in cc/second).
Example:
If you inspire a slow, deep breath at a flow setting of 200cc/second for 5 seconds:
5 sec x 200cc/sec = 1000cc (or 1 liter)
Allow time between inspiratory maneuvers. One SMI repeated with a break of at least one minute between efforts will reduce fatigue and the risk of hyperventilation.
Follow your clinician's instruction carefully. As your condition improves, you may rotate the flow selector to a larger number to achieve greater volumes.
